Some Thoughts on Supporting & Sponsoring Programme

Eurasia Shakespeare Theatre Company (ESTC) is the only one Shakespeare specialist theatre troupe in South Korea founded in 2002 for the purpose of performances of all the Shakespeare works (39 plays) as the troupe's first performing project, and from the beginning for the stage productions of the excellent works especially Shakespearean premieres among others yet unknown to Korean audiences.

ESTC goes on working sincerely to create high quality performing arts in its unique and imaginative study of Shakespearean works and his contemporary theatrical culture. Our purpose is to stage choice worldly acclaimed works beyond any territorial border or nationality through the twenty five hundred years of the world stage history.

The brief look at the stage history of our theatre company ESTC from the 1st performance 2002 to the 15th performance of King Henry VI, Part 3 2012 reveals our troupe's challenging spirit and consisting pursuit for new stage experiments. In this period our theatre company only performed 15 Korean premieres. First of all the four Shakespearean comedies but Nastasya ㅡ Two Gentlemen of Verona, Much Ado About Nothing, All's Well That Ends Well, Love's Labour's Lost, and 7 history plays of "The Wars of the Roses" ㅡ King Richard II, King Henry IV, Part 1, King Henry IV, Part 2, King Henry V, King Henry VI, Part 1, King Henry VI, Part 2, King Henry VI, Part 3, and also two more histories King John, King Edward III, and one tragedy Timon of Athens.

ESTC finished the performance of Richard III, the last play of the 8 histories of "The Wars of the Roses" at the 'Daloreum' (Moon-rising) Hall of the National Theatre in Seoul Korea in 2012. From 2013 the theatre group began to work with 4 great tragedies Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear, and Othello, because there were no more Shakespeare premiere play left for it.

The founder and director of the theatre troupe ESTC, Nam Yook Hyon, who has directed and performed all the plays of the company until then, translated himself for his new performances Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear into his mother tongue Korean. And he staged the great four plays one after another at the Theatre Elim Hall, Daehakro in Seoul from 2013 to 2017. Especially ESTC also performed 6-hour no-cut version Hamlet for the first time in Korean performing history in Seoul, 21 September - 2 October 2016, for the memorial service of the 400 anniversary of Shakespeare's death. The complete Hamlet performance without cutting a word began at four pm and finished at 10 pm including one hour intermission for dinner time from 6 to 7 pm.

For about 3 years from 2018 ESTC is dealing with new Shakespearean major comedy series with new translations as well ㅡ A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Merchant of Venice, As You Like It, The Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night....and the popular tragedy Romeo & Juliet

ESTC needs your friendly supporting hearts and creative sponsorship for more successful production activities. As you understand, some considerable financial support and sponsorship are very important to our challenging goals to perform all Shakespearean works. Especially they are crucial to our passionate efforts to create moving stage productions with new studies and interpretations, which would be remembered long to our audiences. For these purposes ESTC is come to run some appropriate financial supporting programmes. ESTC wishes to go together with your good supporting wills to promote culture and arts for better future. We hope you be more interested in participating in our supporting and sponsorship programmes which is very essential to our diverse creative theatrical activities.

As you know well Medici families' interests and supports for their contemporary artists dedicated much in motivating various creative activities generation after generation and finally resulted in the splendid historical and cultural renaissance, leading the most beautifully blossomed European cultural revolution. The great cultural heritage is still active in their contemporary society. In those days kings, queens, nobles, and the rich people supported their artists, who also rewarded their fellow people in turn making their society rich with their artistic creativity or spiritually invaluable rich assets. And now some social organizations, successful businessmen or individuals replaced the supporting roles for their contemporary society.

The artist's frontier spirit of creativity has been consistently supported fully by the ruling classes, or thoughtful businessmen or individual citizens, and the remarkable artistic creativity, becoming another creative or productive vitality of life in their contemporary societies that supported themselves, came to generate invaluably higher spiritual or cultural value that their fellow people could relish, and dedicated to make their societies richer. Also in this twenty first century various social or cultural organizations, or individual supporters, as well as artists and business partners are making considerable efforts to change our society to better and beautiful playground of life with promising cultural or artistic support and cooperation together.

These cooperative meetings between arts and business would be very creative and meaningful. With good will for better society, they would function to lead our society to more refined and elevated community with deeper social, cultural or artistic understandings. There would be more accessible and enjoyable domain of life to the business enterprises, social organizations, or individuals that would engage and advance together with creative spirits.

Eurasia Shakespeare Theatre Company would satisfy our long-waited audience wishes for better stage productions and do our best to present more qualified performances that could last longer deep in their hearts.

It would be our great pleasure to meet your good will to join us our supporting programmes. We intend to advance for better future for the purpose of artistic creativity with our daring challenges and passionate experiments. We sincerely hope and expect there would be friendly creative cooperation between our efforts and your loving supporting hearts.

Thank you!

We all ESTC members hope you be happy and blessed and prosperous ever.
